Two days at Bibou M’Complete Cafe have closed, but the stories and emotions that MsKÉN received still remain for a very long time.
Those were unexpected encounters with new friends, guests who passed by and then stayed for a very long time just to listen to MsKÉN tell the story of Vietnamese silk. The workshop not only had the participation of Vietnamese people, but also had the presence of international friends, who shared the same curiosity about a material that has been attached to Vietnamese culture daily, yearly, and through many generations.
And perhaps, what MsKÉN remembers most is the appearance of young guests. The attentive eyes, the tiny hands patiently pulling each silk thread or meticulously coloring the small silkworm cocoons made the workshop space more special than ever.
Let’s look back at those memorable moments with MsKÉN.
Colors on Silkworm Cocoons
The silkworm cocoon keychain coloring workshop brought a morning filled with creativity. From the cocoons bearing a natural ivory white color, each participant was free to send their imagination through different color gamuts. No two artworks were identical. Each cocoon, after being embellished, transformed into a different shape, expressing the personality and emotions of its creator.
Before starting the experience, everyone learned together about the journey of the silk thread, from the tiny cocoons to the process of reeling silk, weaving silk, and finishing into silk products. After that, each person could choose to participate in the silk fan making workshop or the silkworm cocoon keychain coloring workshop according to their preference.
Attention was still directed toward the silk fan making experience. Everyone manually pulled each thin and light silk thread onto the fan frame. This activity required patience and dexterity so that the silk layers were spread evenly, creating a complete product.
MsKÉN Silk Product Display Space
Throughout the two days of the event, MsKÉN’s display booth was always open so that everyone could directly touch and feel the silk material.
Different from what we usually imagine about silk through images on newspapers, broadcasters, or the Internet, the actual feeling of the material when hands touch the soft, smooth, and weightless surface of the natural silk thread is even more special.
Besides the softness of the material, the beauty of the colors and patterns on it made the silk scarf look more prominent, and everyone was very interested when discovering many diverse applications of silk scarves.
A scarf can become a light highlight for an outfit and sometimes can change the charisma of the outfit and the wearer due to the flexibility in ways of use, such as tying on a handbag, making a hair accessory, wearing around the neck, tying around the waist, or transforming into many different clothing styles.
In addition to applications in fashion, silk is also present in the list of natural products for daily health and beauty care, such as: natural silkworm cocoons for exfoliating and facial massaging, or silkworm cocoons used to make soap and body wash. Or finished products used for sleep care like eye masks, etc.
Besides, MsKÉN had accidental meetings with other brands. Through only a few stories, MsKÉN understood more about the products, the brand stories, as well as found harmony in mission, vision, and core values. Both sides reached the decision to shake hands and collaborate with each other through a few products.
